Fern Hill Series

The Fern Hill series of monotypes began after I read about the history of the color green, discovering its ancient link to mystery, spirituality and royalty. Subsequently, I realized that every stanza in one of my favorite poems, Dylan Thomas’ Fern Hill, contains the word, green.

The poem initially celebrates the exuberant, naive energy of childhood, when possibilities seem infinite. The latter part of the poem reflects the wisdom of age, and the yearning for that lost innocence. One of the calligraphic characters in the series means “innocence, naiveté” and the other means “longing for.”
