The global financial crisis exacerbated the chasm between the world’s richest people and its poorest citizens: those who can easily pay thousands of dollars for a silk dress and those who cannot feed or house their children. This series explores that yawning division by combining gestural calligraphy, images and data from newspapers and magazines, and the traditional East Asian ideograph for money.
The series’ title, “The Abyss Passed Over in Silence,” references a poem by Czeslaw Milosz.
