Abyss Passed In Silence: sotheby's (2011)

Monotype, sumi ink, oil stick, solvent transfer on Rives BFK paper
30" x 22"

The Abyss series explores how the global financial crisis exacerbated the chasm between the world’s richest people and its poorest citizens:  those who can easily pay thousands of dollars for a silk dress and those who can’t afford to feed or house their children.  The artwork combines gestural calligraphy, images and data from newspapers and magazines, and the traditional East Asian ideograph for money.

The series title, “The Abyss Passed in Silence,” references a poem by Czeslaw Milosz.
